Meet the Filmmaker: Kris Hipps, “Lenny C” (trailer)

Lenny C (trailer) | www.papercatfilms.com

002Q: Why did you become a filmmaker?

KH: I became a filmmaker because I wanted to take my theater skills to the next level, to challenge myself.

Q: What are we going to see at the EFP? Has it screened elsewhere and what are your plans for it?

KH: The project on EFP is a teaser for a documentary I’m working on about local poet/activist Lenny Chernila. This is it’s first screening.

Q: What else are you working on?

KH: The only other thing I’m working on are promo spots for the magic shop I’m opening with my partner soon.

Q: Tell us one weird thing about you and/or your movies?

KH: One weird thing: My partner and I are opening a magic shop.

Q: Where can people go to find out more about you and your work?

KH: Our website: www.papercatfilms.com

Q: Is there anything you’d like to say about The Emerging Filmmakers Project?

KH: I love the EFP! I refer budding filmmakers and actors to it all the time.

The trailer for Lenny C will screen December 19th at The Emerging Filmmakers Project.

Meet the Filmmaker: Lauryn Guerrieri, “Roses in December”

Roses in Decemberwww.facebook.com/liquidluckp

meQ: Why did you become a filmmaker?

LG: I never actively decided I wanted to be a filmmaker, it just sort of happened to me! I started with my parent’s handicam filming barbies and my siblings at the age of 10. I took classes in middle school and high school, making video projects whenever I could. And then I decided to major in film in college and here I am today! I became a filmmaker because I wanted to have a job that I loved.

Q: What are we going to see at the EFP? Has it screened elsewhere and what are your plans for it?

LG: This is Roses’s 3rd festival. It premiered at CU Denver’s Cinefest, where it won Audience choice, best production design and best cinematography in May 2013. It’s 2nd festival was at the Colorado Independent Women of Film Festival. We plan on continuing to screen and submit to festivals until May 2014. We will be releasing it on DVD with a package of our other shorts after festival deadlines are done.

Q: What else are you working on?

LG: I am finishing up my very last semester this upcoming Spring! I will be working on one short narrative and one short documentary. Besides that, we have many client projects we do at Liquid Luck! We are currently wrapping up a promo for a Discovery Channel show.

Q: Tell us one weird thing about you and/or your movies?

LG: Something interesting about this film is that it was filmed in all the original locations that they occurred. All the actors represent someone in my family (names changed of course).

Q: Where can people go to find out more about you and your work?

LG: Most of our work is on our facebook page: facebook.com/liquidluckp. And our videos are on vimeo: vimeo.com/liquidluck

Q: Is there anything you’d like to say about The Emerging Filmmakers Project?

LG: Support local film!

Roses in December will screen December 19th at The Emerging Filmmakers Project.

Meet the Filmmaker: Rob Shearer, “Anything Helps”

Anything Helps Poster

Q: Why did you become a filmmaker?

RS: I became a filmmaker because I love telling stories. I realize that every filmmaker gives this answer when asked this question, but I love how a story can show the transformation of a character through challenges and tests, and how we as audience members can see ourselves in the character’s transformation as well.

Q: What are we going to see at the EFP? Has it screened elsewhere and what are your plans for it?

RS: We are going to see Anything Helps, a short film I wrote and directed in 2012. It was my senior film at the University of Colorado at Denver and has screened at the Big Bear Lake International Film Festival, the Starz Denver Film Festival, and recently at the Southern Colorado Film Festival. I plan on continuing to submit it to more festivals and competitions in the next year.

Q: What else are you working on?

RS: I am currently shooting product videos for a Barbecue grill company, and will have a couple creative projects coming up soon. Nothing I am comfortable talking about now.

Q: Tell us one weird thing about you and/or your movies?

RS: About one year after we shot Anything Helps, about half of our filming locations in Downtown Denver have either been renovated or destroyed. Thus making any reshoots, sequels, spinoffs, and foreign remakes nearly impossible to shoot.

Q: Where can people go to find out more about you and your work?

RS: I have a filmmaker page on Facebook, and my Youtube channel has most of my work posted on it. Go to youtube.com/robshearerfilm

Q: Is there anything you’d like to say about The Emerging Filmmakers Project?

RS: Thank you so much for hosting such a great platform for filmmakers like myself to show our work! I would also like to mention the organization Dry Bones. They helped me and my crew with research about homelessness during the production of the film. Please visit them at http://drybonesdenver.org/

Anything Helps will screen December 19th at The Emerging Filmmakers Project.
