Meet the Filmmaker: Justin Lewis, “Serene Valley”

Justin Lewis | www.121studios.net

464302364_640Q: Why did you become a filmmaker?

JL: I love telling stories. As a kid I use to write books and envision them as movies. After realizing the power of visual storytelling, I was determined to make it my career . As a filmmaker I love telling stories that challenge the audience and provoke conversation. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

Q: What are we going to see at the EFP? Has it screened elsewhere and what are your plans for it?

JL: Serene Valley was made in 2010, my junior year at the Colorado Film School. It was released spring of 2011and has screened at 7 festivals across the nation. We shot all around Colorado and took almost 6 months to complete.

Q: What else are you working on?

JL: My company, 121Studios (121studios.net) is working on a new series that we are going to be pitching to networks and distributers. We are also working on a few feature length screenplays and music videos.

Q: Tell us one weird thing about you and/or your movies?

JL: Aren’t most filmmakers weird?

Q: Where can people go to find out more about you and your work?

JL: Visit 121Studios.net and vimeo.com/justinlewis

Q: Is there anything you’d like to say about The Emerging Filmmakers Project?

JL: Love it! Such a good place to show your work and network with other local filmmakers.

Serene Valley will screen March 20th at The Emerging Filmmakers Project.

Meet the Filmmaker: Richard Corso, “WHO’S BRUCE FLYNN?”

WHO’S BRUCE FLYNN? | www.facebook.com/moonclockfilms

1972309_689856907724298_464334865_nQ: Why did you become a filmmaker?

RC: I became a filmmaker because I fell in love with telling stories. At an early age I was exposed to all sorts of movies. Westerns, comedies, war films…everything! I would spend hours and hours, days and days just watching the special features behind the ‘making of’ section. It is still to the point where even if I have a copy of say, LA Confidential, I will buy a new one just because it has a making of section (2 disc).

Q: What are we going to see at the EFP? Has it screened elsewhere and what are your plans for it?

RC: This is my attempt at a dark comedy. it is the story of a middle aged man who is inviting you into his day to day lifestyle where he is a father, husband, and knife salesmen at a company called NYFE-CO. It stars Brent Podosek as Bruce, and has only been screened once at an open screen night at a pub, nothing special. It was released online though.

Q: What else are you working on?

RC: I am currently in post production of another short film titled, MONKEY, it is a psycho-science fiction drama that plays with the theory of evolution, the creation/destruction of man, and Shrodinger’s Cat. It stars Haydn Winston as the main character ALBERT and SCOTT K. LESLIE as ADAM. Both of whom are slowly going crazy in a bomb shelter. My plan is for 3 shorts by the end of the year and hope to be moving to LA very VERY soon.

Q: Tell us one weird thing about you and/or your movies?

RC: I am very fascinated with anti-heroes. With the exception of a few stories the battle between good and evil has always bored me on a wide scale. I believe it occurs more in the mind and heart. That it is more of a battle of our own self, not armies of evil vs. armies of good. Because of this i have always created characters who are not 100% good and not 100% evil. I bring a lot of literary terms and books into my works, and I always try and give myself a creative cameo in all my pictures, not out of ego, but rather because I always loved seeing my favorite directors in my favorite movies. Another weird thing about me is I HATE green screens. Period.

Q: Where can people go to find out more about you and your work?

RC: You can find my work at (www.youtube.com/moonclockfilms) here you can see my portfolio work from Rabbit Bones to whatever I just made. However, I am most likely going to be making a switch to vimeo very soon. You can also find my work at (www.facebook.com/richardcorso.film) my film team FB is (www.facebook.com/moonclockfilms)

Q: Is there anything you’d like to say about The Emerging Filmmakers Project?

RC: I am glad I was chosen, can’t wait to speak on behalf of my work, and the future of cinema. I think Denver is growing and I think this new class of story tellers are doing a great job continuing this art form others and myself have turned into a lifestyle.

WHO’S BRUCE FLYNN? will screen March 20th at The Emerging Filmmakers Project.

Meet the Filmmaker: Deb Flomberg, Equinox Theatre Company’s “Frozen” (trailer)

Equinox Theatre Company’s “Frozen” (trailer) | http://www.equinoxtheatredenver.com/

Debheadshot1Q: Why did you become a filmmaker?

DF: I’ve studied theatre, and that is my primary occupation. However, I’ve been learning film as a means to help bring live theatre to a more diverse audience. I create trailers like this one for every show that Equinox Theatre Company produces.

Q: What are we going to see at the EFP? Has it screened elsewhere and what are your plans for it?

DF: This is the trailer for our upcoming play, Frozen. You’ll note this is definitely NOT the Disney Frozen. It’s been on Facebook, but that is it so far.

Q: What else are you working on?

DF: My next film trailer will be for Stephen Sondheim’s Company. I am also working on a few other film projects with DenverMind Media that I will be able to share very soon.

Q: Tell us one weird thing about you and/or your movies?

DF: I don’t know that I’ve got anything really interesting to share about my movies or film work so far… so how about something weird about me? I’m terrified of butterflies.

Q: Where can people go to find out more about you and your work?

DF: Please come see Equinox Theatre’s Frozen. We open March 29 and run at The Bug through April 19. It’s a truly powerful and brilliant drama about the human capacity for forgiveness after an act that would seem to rule that out entirely.

Q: Is there anything you’d like to say about The Emerging Filmmakers Project?

DF: Thank you for giving me the opportunity to show my work and for bringing the independent artists community together!

The trailer for Equinox Theatre Company’s “Frozen” will screen March 20th at The Emerging Filmmakers Project.

PJ: Growing in the Hollywood Scene since I was 4 years old. I’ve always had appreciate for the industry – working in Film, TV stations and then decided I wanted to see if this is something I could enjoy.

Q: What are we going to see at the EFP? Has it screened elsewhere and what are your plans for it?

PJ: What started off as a personal project between two film/tv veterans to screen for our own enjoyment, turned into a great set of people working and enjoying the experience. We have only had a cast and crew screener wrap party. It’s still a personal project to us, so it can either stay as that, or let the river flow with it.

Q: What else are you working on?

PJ: This is will a “Poematic” trilogy. We will be working on the last two shorts this coming up months.

Q: Tell us one weird thing about you and/or your movies?

PJ: My signature in Film/TV has been there is always one clip that is shot either backwards, or in post reversed. I will never tell which clip, but it’s just me in my art.

Q: Where can people go to find out more about you and your work?

PJ: http://www.HitcherTheMovie.comhttp://www.Facebook.com/HitcherTheMovie

Q: Is there anything you’d like to say about The Emerging Filmmakers Project?
