Meet the Filmmaker: Evan Cannon, “Privilege”

“Privilege”

Evan.Cannon-3284Q: Why did you become a filmmaker?

EC: I felt the need to express certain ideas and feelings in a way that I couldn’t as effectively communicate in any other format but film. The combination of visuals, audio, words, and performance create a particular kind of reaction in people that can’t really be achieved in any other medium. Film, for me, is a way of sharing thoughts with others and in a way allowing them to see inside my mind.

Q: What are we going to see at the EFP? Has it screened elsewhere and what are your plans for it?

EC: “Privilege” is a short film I wrote and directed in 2012 as part of a Colorado Film School course. It was accepted into three international film festivals: Starz! Denver Film Festival 2013, Napa Valley Film Festival 2013, and Orlando Film Festival 2013.

Q: What else are you working on?

EC: I’m currently producing online video content for Craftsy.com, and working on a feature script.

Q: Tell us one weird thing about you and/or your movies?

EC: “Privilege” was shot in one day.

Q: Where can people go to find out more about you and your work?

EC: Find me on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/privilegeshortfilm/?ref=hl

Q: Is there anything you’d like to say about The Emerging Filmmakers Project?

EC: I think it’s impressive and imperative work that the EFP does. There are far too few voices for local indie film in Colorado and the EFP gives local artists a platform to share work and connect with other filmmakers. Colorado has seriously talented filmmakers that deserve notice and the EFP is helping them achieve that.

“Privilege” will be screening on March 17th at the Emerging Filmmaker’s Project.

Meet the Filmmaker: Peter Deak, “Losing Myself Music Video”

“Losing Myself Music Video”

Cameraman10bQ: Why did you become a filmmaker?

PD: Since I was a child I’ve had a love of images, both still and motion. Just always fascinated me. So as a kid I picked up and played with my dad’s still cameras and film camera quite a bit.

Q: What are we going to see at the EFP? Has it screened elsewhere and what are your plans for it?

PD: I’ll be showing Losing Myself, a zombie themed music video for musician Luka Keck, which is very much a narrative type short. It screened in February at George Climer’s My Bloody Violent-tine Film Fest. It’s a promotional piece for Luka and is on her YouTube channel so this is probably the last public screening.

Q: What else are you working on?

PD: Luka and I are starting to plan another music video for her. I’ll also be acting as a DP on a short film that will be shooting this May/June.

Q: Tell us one weird thing about you and/or your movies?

PD: I have webbed toes. Just kidding. Well I don’t know if this is weird but my last name is actually pronounced D-EH-AACK. It’s Hungarian. I’m first generation. It’s almost impossible to get anyone to pronounce it right in America so I gave up long ago and just day D-EE-K.

Q: Where can people go to find out more about you and your work?

PD: I have a news page on my website at www.lightskyvideography.com and/or people can “Like” my company Facebook page, and see updates, at www.facebook.com/LightskyVideography.

Q: Is there anything you’d like to say about The Emerging Filmmakers Project?

PD: I’m just so thrilled that there is a venue like this where filmmakers can showcase their work and interact with other filmmakers as well as viewers who are interested in the process.

“Losing Myself Music Video” will be screening on March 17th at the Emerging Filmmaker’s Project.

Meet the Filmmaker: Elvis León, “Cecil & Carl”

“Cecil & Carl”

CecilandCarlQ: Why did you become a filmmaker?

EL: Since I was a kid, I always had a tough time expressing myself. This changed when I discovered film school in 2009 and few years later,  I went on to graduate with a Film Producing and Screenwriting degree in 2013. Making movies has given me an outlet and I feel lucky to have found a passion that keeps me marching forward.

Q: What are we going to see at the EFP? Has it screened elsewhere and what are your plans for it?

EL: Cecil & Carl, is a love story about two men who have been partners for 43 years, 8 months, 1 week and four days. Carl now has dementia Their story is not about grand gestures of love or about being gay – it is about commitment and the duties that come with it. In sickness and in health. The team hopes that the project will catch fire in film festival circuits, wish us luck!

Q: What else are you working on?

EL: I’m helping produce and co-faciliatate a couple of film related workshops. One’s a 3-day digital storytelling class and the other is a VFX and MoCap workshop that gives demonstrations on motion capture suit acting and virtual reality technology. See links below for more information!

Q: Where can people go to find out more about you and your work?

EL: vimeo.com/beyoufilms, themocapstudio.co.uk, StoryCenter.Org

Q: Is there anything you’d like to say about The Emerging Filmmakers Project?
