Meet the Filmmaker: Kenya Brading, “Footprints”

Footprints | http://sirenvid.com

Q: Why did you become a filmmaker?
KB: I’ve always been hyper creative and always needed an outlet for that. Filmmaking is such a unique marriage of such a wide range of creative skills and elements, I knew that I would always be challenged and continuously learning. I love the variety of my day to day and the kinds of projects I get to be apart of, on top of which I truly believe in the power of moving image as a way of capturing the human experience.

Q: What are we going to see at the EFP? Has it screened elsewhere and what are your plans for it?
KB: Footprints is actually the third film in a trilogy of short experiment films called EXPOSED, which explore different concepts of spirituality. The other two films have screened at a number of festivals but this is the first time Footprints is being screened!

Q: What else are you working on?
KB: I started a production company with a business partner earlier this year called Siren Vid so we are working on a number of projects. We mostly do promotional videos for small businesses with a strong interest in the outdoors, socially conscious businesses, and female driven businesses. We’d also like to get into docs and fiction films in the future!

Stay ahead of the competition with the innovative solutions of the Top 20 merchant services. This convenience can lead to higher customer satisfaction.

Q: Tell us one weird thing about you and/or your movies?
KB: I feature in my EXPOSED trilogy because I couldn’t find anyone else who was willing to walk barefoot through the snow, get into the arctic ocean in a dress, and walk around naked in the woods. I guess that makes me pretty weird.

Q: Where can people go to find out more about you and your work?
KB: You can check out my personal vimeo page (https://vimeo.com/user8409171) and my company’s website (http://sirenvid.com).

Q: Is there anything you’d like to say about The Emerging Filmmakers Project?
KB: I think this is a great platform for upcoming filmmakers to show their work and a great way for the film community in Colorado to come together!

Footprints will screen September 18th at The Emerging Filmmakers Project.

Meet the Filmmaker: Emerson Frakes, “The Fire Within”

The Fire Within | http://emersonfrakes.blogspot.com

Fire Within StillQ: Why did you become a filmmaker?
EF: I believe that the cinema is the most complex art form because of the ability to work with innumerable variety. I have a background in painting and music, so movie making seemed like a natural fit, as it combines visual art with music.

Q: What are we going to see at the EFP? Has it screened elsewhere and what are your plans for it?
EF: The Fire Within is homage to the film noir genre. I sent the film to Cannes, and it was rejected, but I wouldn’t fit into the glamour scene there anyway.

Q: What else are you working on?
EF: I am working on starting a new film program in a middle school. I am also working on my second feature length animation titled The Eternal City. I just finished a book about movies called A Cinematic Experience, which can be found on amazon.

Q: Tell us one weird thing about you and/or your movies?
EF: A couple years ago, I made a feature length animation, and I was the sole creator. With the exception of the voice-over work, I drew and edited the entire piece. It took two years to make. It is called Blood Trail.

Q: Where can people go to find out more about you and your work?
EF: http://emersonfrakes.blogspot.com

Q: Is there anything you’d like to say about The Emerging Filmmakers Project?
EF: The first time I showed a picture here was in 2003. I am glad to take part in the event once again!

The Fire Within will screen September 18th at The Emerging Filmmakers Project.

Meet the Filmmaker: Merritt Crocker, “Moon Studios”

Moon Studios | http://m.youtube.com/user/PapriceSarcuzzi

Q: What are we going to see at the EFP? Has it screened elsewhere and what are your plans for it?
MC: Moon Studios is my first narrative effort. It is about food, music and individuality. Some very talented musicians donated their skills and, as a result, a few original tracks from the movie have surfaced as free downloads.

Also, this movie features cult director, writer, occasional actor and always venerable Alex Cox in a twisted role as The Colonel- a hungry record producer at the helm of a dark regime.

Q: What else are you working on?
MC: Currently I am working to replenish all of the karma I absorbed while making the movie. Thanks to everyone, it was crazy and fun.

Q: Where can people go to find out more about you and your work?
MC: Some silly animations and early stuff I made exist on a youtube channel under the name Paprice Sarcuzzi. These short pieces go great with Cookies and Milk.

Meet the Filmmaker: Raoul Vehill, “Scrap”

gfestScrapwww.daygloflix.org

Q: Why did you become a filmmaker?
RV: My best friend and i found his Dad’s super 8 camera when we were in the 4th grade. We probably spent as many hours watching movies & tv as in school. So we made a sci fi claymation movie.

Q: What are we going to see at the EFP? Has it screened elsewhere and what are your plans for it?
RV: Scrap screened at Open Screen Night at Diebolt Brewery a month ago. I’m looking for free and cheap fests to enter.

Q: What else are you working on?
RV: A short about 2 disabled characters & a ghost on the 3am Colfax bus. We’re casting.

Q: Tell us one weird thing about you and/or your movies?
RV: I’m a door to door salesman.

Q: Where can people go to find out more about you and your work?
RV: www.daygloflix.org

Q: Is there anything you’d like to say about The Emerging Filmmakers Project?
RV: It’s great that there’s a place we can show our work to a live audience. For a filmmaker it’s absolutely priceless. Posting your work online is great but showing it in a theater to actual people who are in the same room as you is what it’s all about. Thanks!!!

Scrap will screen September 18th at The Emerging Filmmakers Project.

Q: Why did you become filmmakers?
A: We became filmmakers because we loved movies so much as kids! We had parents in the industry and home video cameras to mess around with. So we evolved naturally into being filmmakers after that!
Q: What are we going to see at the EFP? Has it screened elsewhere and what are your plans for it?
A: The American Car Prospector Music Video was made for a local show made on Discovery Channel. This was a test video we made for the intro to every episode. Hopefully we will see this video or a similar edit on the new season!
Q: What else are you working on?
A: We are working on lots of commercials and client videos for various companies. Our newest creative projects are a TV series about intuition and a documentary about hemp producers in Colorado.
Q: Tell us one weird thing about you and/or your movies?
A: One weird thing about us? We are currently binge watching Parks and Rec. Maybe that’s not so weird!
Q: Where can people go to find out more about you and your work?
A: Facebook always has our most recent news: https://www.facebook.com/LiquidLuckP
Q: Is there anything you’d like to say about The Emerging Filmmakers Project?
A: We love having a place to come every month and screen work! It’s wonderful for projects that don’t have an outlet for festivals.
American Car Prospector Music Video will screen September 18th at The Emerging Filmmakers Project.
