Whether it is rocking out films or kicking 360’s on the ramps, you will find Josh & Zach and I was fortunate enough to pedal them down on my Huffy like the kid from “Better Off Dead” long enough to have them answer a few questions for us.
MM: Why did you become a filmmaker?
Josh: I have always loved film! There is nothing quite like a movie that really gets under your skin and makes you feel something. I love sharing stories and making people laugh at uncomfortable situations, but mostly I love making and sharing stories that people can relate with.
Zach: I saw Frankenstein (1931) when I was five. The very same day, I told my mom that I was going to make movies for a living and I’ve been working towards that goal ever since.
MM: What are we going to see at the EFP? Has it screened elsewhere and what are your plans for it?
The film you are going to see is a narrative short called “A Week Without A Bicycle” which takes a glance at a former couple’s first conversation post-breaking up.
We have had a private screening for our friends and it’s on our Vimeo page.
We plan on showing this film anywhere we can and hopefully gaining interest for our upcoming feature film.
MM: What else are you working on?
We are currently working on making our first feature film that begins shooting in May called Something Along the Lines of Dating, a slice of life comedy/drama about a recently dumped man who meets his dream girl, only to have his ex come back into the picture.
MM: Tell us one weird thing about you and/or your movies?
Josh: I don’t know if this is weird, but most of my films, including this one, consist of a written story but the dialogue is mostly improv and they are often word for word conversations I have had with exes in the past, with it sometimes happening completely on accident.
Zach: I work as a tattoo artist by day, and interestingly, it has informed my work with directing and cinematography more than I could ever have imagined.
MM: Where can people go to find out more about you and your work?
MM: Is there anything you’d like to say about The Emerging Filmmakers Project?
Josh: I have shown a couple of short film at EFP before and I just love that this community exists! I look forward to seeing all of the other films playing and getting to know this community even more!
Zach – Truth be told, I had never heard about EFP until Josh submitted our film, but as I was looking into it I found that my old film school friends have been showcasing their work there for years. I’m excited to see what the Denver film scene has to offer.
